I’ve been playing with devfs and ReiserFS lately, and building some RPMs of 2.2.18 and 2.4.0 with IPSec compiled in.
Also, I got Linux IrDA going on my Thinkpad, so I can now sync my Palm V over infrared.

Damn, San Francisco is a long way from Ft. Lauderdale and that holiday was way too short. I need another one.
Compiled the latest Gtk-Perl today, so that I can continue hacking on my implementation of Set.
So, my time in Providence comes to an end. It’s been fun to see the Ocean State, though very cold. We took the train up to Boston earlier in the week, which was great fun.
In a few short hours, Sarah and I get on a plane to Ft. Lauderdale, flying via Philadelphia. I hope the damn blizzard doesn’t cause us to get stranded there. That would be no fun at all. Warmer climes, here we come.
hacker, since you’ve also signed the Palm NDA, I can let you have the PalmOS 4 stuff when I get back into the office next week, if you like. BTW, the latest version of POSE compiles on my box, but SEGVs after loading up. Sigh… I’m really enjoying your diary entries, too. Watch out that you don’t weaken yourself too much with all that nutrition experimentation.
I’m tired. I’ve been having a spate of late nights recently and it’s killing me.
I spent yesterday hacking the Anaconda code of the Red Hat 6.2 installer. It wouldn’t recognise drives connected to the second controller in a Compaq Proliant 8500 server. Now it does, so we can finally install our database servers using our custom Kickstart installation.
Spent some time recently getting the cross-compiler tools for the Palm up and running under Linux. Had to sign a damn NDA with Palm to get the SDK, but what the heck.
I want to start hacking together a GTK+ based version of a great card game called Set. I’ll probably prototype it in Perl and then port it to C as a programming exercise, since my programming skills must have atrophied from lack of use over the last nine months.
Once I have that version working, I’ll try to figure out how to port it to the Palm. The lack of colour on that device will make the problem more difficult.
I’ll be flying to Fort Lauderdale on Saturday and then driving to Margate, where my mother and little sister now live.
On Christmas Day, I’ll fly to Providence for Christmas with Sarah and her family, before returning with her to Ft. Lauderdale for the New Year celebrations.
I’m really looking forward to my time off. It’s been a long year.
So, yesterday was an interesting day. I was lent out to Professional Services for a gig at Turbo Linux. The NDA probably precludes an explanation of what I did over there, but it was fun to see another Bay Area Linux company and get to mess with someone else’s network for a change.
I went to see an ice-hockey match between the San Jose Sharks and the Dallas Stars last night, down in San José. That was a lot of fun.
That brings my American sporting experiences to four in total: 3 baseball games (2 Giants games at Pacbell Park, 1 Oakland As) and one hockey game.
