21st December 2000

I’m tired. I’ve been having a spate of late nights recently and it’s killing me.

I spent yesterday hacking the Anaconda code of the Red Hat 6.2 installer. It wouldn’t recognise drives connected to the second controller in a Compaq Proliant 8500 server. Now it does, so we can finally install our database servers using our custom Kickstart installation.

Spent some time recently getting the cross-compiler tools for the Palm up and running under Linux. Had to sign a damn NDA with Palm to get the SDK, but what the heck.

I want to start hacking together a GTK+ based version of a great card game called Set. I’ll probably prototype it in Perl and then port it to C as a programming exercise, since my programming skills must have atrophied from lack of use over the last nine months.

Once I have that version working, I’ll try to figure out how to port it to the Palm. The lack of colour on that device will make the problem more difficult.

I’ll be flying to Fort Lauderdale on Saturday and then driving to Margate, where my mother and little sister now live.

On Christmas Day, I’ll fly to Providence for Christmas with Sarah and her family, before returning with her to Ft. Lauderdale for the New Year celebrations.

I’m really looking forward to my time off. It’s been a long year.
