{"id":1641,"date":"2002-12-03T04:00:55","date_gmt":"2002-12-03T03:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/caliban.org\/wp\/?p=1641"},"modified":"2010-03-20T01:55:19","modified_gmt":"2010-03-20T00:55:19","slug":"day-31-hong-kong-menlo-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/caliban.org\/wp\/2002\/12\/day-31-hong-kong-menlo-park\/","title":{"rendered":"Day 31: Hong Kong -> Menlo Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We allowed ourselves the luxury of not rising until 08:30 today.<\/p>\n\n<p>We left around 09:30 for a last walk around Kowloon, our hopes of\nreturning to The Peak dashed by the fourth consecutive cloudy day since\nour arrival.<\/p>\n\n<p>Attempts to find a good place to enjoy dim sum failed, leaving me feeling\ngrumpy and dissatisfied. Oh well; we&#8217;ve eaten splendidly during the rest\nof our trip, so I can&#8217;t really complain.<\/p>\n\n<p>A short walk through Kowloon Park, stopping to look at the bird garden and\nimpressive aviary, were about all we had time for. Back at the hotel, we\nchecked out and proceeded to the airport, enjoying as much efficiency in\nthis direction as we had upon our arrival.<\/p>\n\n<p>A 12 hour plane flight ensued, followed by an interminable wait for our\nbaggage, a bus ride to the train station, and finally the slow, rickety\nCaltrain ride to Menlo Park.<\/p>\n\n<p>We&#8217;re now at home, preparing to go out for pizza, hoping to get back\nbefore the effects of this 40 hour long 2nd December (that&#8217;s what you get\nwhen you depart from a country that&#8217;s 16 hours ahead of Californian time)\nstart to take hold of us.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We allowed ourselves the luxury of not rising until 08:30 today.
